Hospital Staff

Victor Saltzman, DVM

I was born and raised in a small farm town in southern Nebraska. I received a Bachelor of Science degree in animal science from the University of Nebraska. My education in veterinary medicine was completed in 1987 at Iowa State University. I moved to Glendale after my graduation and have been practicing medicine here since. My hobbies include hiking, fishing and traveling with my wife and two boys.

Jennifer Starkel, DVM

I am originally from a small town in Connecticut. I received my Bachelor degree in Animal Science at the University of New Hampshire in 2001. I attended the University of Missouri, College of Veterinary Medicine and received my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in May of 2005. I moved to Phoenix in June of 2005 and I have adjusted easily and quickly to the desert environment. I enjoy spending time with my husband, dog and cats; hiking and jogging.

Derek Bower, DVM

I was born and raised right here in Phoenix. I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Arizona and from there went off to veterinary school in Colorado. I graduated from veterinary school at Colorado State University in 2004 and then did a rotating small animal internship in medicine and surgery at the University of Pennsylvania. My wife and I enjoy spending time with our wonderful beagle and Rottweiler mix named Lily. In my spare time I head off to the high country for fly-fishing, hiking and camping.

Ryan

I am a 3^rd generation Arizona native and have been working at Happy Valley since February 2005. I have a wonderful wife, daughter and son. Together we have a total of 4 dogs and 2 cats. I have always grown up with pets and am thankful for the joy my job brings me.

Angel

I have been working at Happy Valley Animal Hospital since February 2007. My favorite holiday is Halloween and I prepare for it year round. My boyfriend and I have a family of cats. I have spayed and neutered many stray cats in my community.

Cheryl

I started working at Happy Valley Animal Hospital since June 2007 just for a short term summer job. Working with the technicians, doctors, clients and pets was such a wonderful experience that I decided to stay on full time. It is a joy to go to work every day. I was born and raised in the great state of Michigan. I moved to Arizona with my husband, Don, and two daughters, Kristin and Allison, in 2002. I have been an elementary school teacher and taught for 16 years. I enjoy running, hiking, camping, traveling and reading.

Hannah

I was born in New Jersey and raised in Pennsylvania. I moved to Arizona in 1998. I have been riding horses since I was 10 years old and am attending school to be an equine veterinarian. I love working at Happy Valley Animal Hospital and have learned so much in my time here. I have worked at Happy Valley since May 2008. I enjoy horseback riding, going to the movies and spending time with my family. I have a black Lab named Chico and a German Shepherd mixed named Madeline. I live with my daughter named Kiersten and my boyfriend, Joseph.

Jennifer

I love spending time with my family and camping. I have been working at Happy Valley Animal Hospital since October 2004. I have two birds, one cat and one snake. I have a wonderful and supportive family. I also have a son named Lane and I’m currently pursuing a certification as an Animal Health Technician.

Kyle

I enjoy riding quads, snowboarding and romping. I have been working at Happy Valley Animal Hospital since July 2006 and previous worked at Beardsley Animal Hospital. I have 2 dogs, a brother and live with my parents. When I’m not working I’m usually out with my friends. During the summer I like to ride quads and during the winter I snowboard as much as possible. I’ve lived in Arizona all my life and love it. I’m a very outgoing person and most of my friends say that I’m funny.

Meagan

I have worked at Happy Valley since October 2005. I love the challenges my job presents and the relationships I have formed with our patients and clients. I truly believe we have the best staff and doctors. I share my home with 2 Lab mix littermates, “Duke” and “Ella”, a chow mix “Kisha”, and a pug named “Sen-sen”. When I am not at work, I am with my boyfriend Scott, at the movies or reading.

Patrong

I have worked at Happy Valley for almost 3 years while studying to become a Physician's Assistant. I was born in Cambodia, and have lived in Arizona for the past 18 years. I have 3 pets, a sheep, chicken and a Lhasa Apso. I enjoy doing outdoor sports.

Steven

I enjoy running and I love to work so much that I come to work on my days off to help. I have been working at Happy Valley Animal Hospital since August 2006. I have a yellow lab named Sunny Bear, who I love very much. I am currently a full time student and studying to be a veterinarian. When I’m not at school I am usually at work or at home studying. In my spare time I like working out and spending time with my family and friends. I’ve lived in Arizona for 6 years now and love spending time out in the hot Arizona sun. During the summer I love getting out of the city and spending time with my family up north fishing. I’m an outgoing person and love to have fun.
